Volunteer with VMF 2019!

We’re switching things up a bit this year and offering volunteers the opportunity to get involved with three different areas of the festival operations. There are so many pieces that bring this whole event together and we’d like to offer you a breadth of experience. We ask that each volunteer complete three, 3 hour shifts (total 9 hours of time) between June 1st-August 15th, but if you have more time to commit then that’s great too!

A little bit about VMF:

Vancouver Mural Festival (VMF) seeks to change the way art is seen in the city and act as a gateway to other established arts venues, festivals and art forms locally. We transform everyday, public spaces and turn cement walls into canvases with large scale artworks from local and visiting artists. With inclusivity and reconciliation as core curatorial and operational values, we turn our streets into a free, public outdoor exhibition -- at once creating opportunities to daylight the talent in our midsts, while providing art accessible to commuters, seekers, guests and residents year long.

Our events, festival, and public art installations serve as catalysts for addressing a variety of cultural issues facing our city and artistic communities, and highlight local cultures and histories. These include but are not limited to public art policy, community building, environmental policy, the reconciliation process, appropriate cultural protocol, public art and its intersection with indigenous sovereignty, artistic censorship, diversity, cost of living, and the need for culturally sustainable development practices.

We are an inclusive event intended for all cultures, genders, ages, abilities, and beyond. We believe that the key to Vancouver’s strength as a world-class cultural hub lies in the diversity of its people. Our artist roster and work produced reflects the unique backgrounds, lifestyles, and critical narratives of our moment in time. The Vancouver Mural Festival is organized by the Create Vancouver Society, a Non-Profit dedicated to artistic and cultural development in British Columbia's Lower Mainland. We recognize that our event is held on the traditional unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.
