Welcoming Donna to VMF!

Hey Everyone, We are feeling a lot of excitement in the first couple of weeks of 2019. Big ideas. Deep Conversations. Long Term Visioning. Entering VMF’s 4th year, we are doing some looking back at what worked and we are also looking ahead to what we want to make happen in 2019 and beyond. One big piece has just fallen into place that will make a lot of what we are planning a reality. That piece is . . . (drum roll please) Donna Dixson our new Manager of Partnerships and Sponsorship at the Vancouver Mural Festival!

Hey Everyone,

We are feeling a lot of excitement in the first couple of weeks of 2019.

Donna will be our go-to person for all things sponsorship as we continue to transform streets, laneways and parking lots into public spaces.

Donna what are three things we should know about you? I love Vancouver, I am passionate about everything I do and I love connecting people! Three things that surprised you about Vancouver Mural Festival? The size of the festival (120,000 people in 2018,) the large amount of engagement the festival creates year-round with its murals and arts youth programs co-created with community partners, and I was very impressed at the super pro team behind the festival. Why did you want to work with the VMF crew? I moved to Vancouver four years ago and have been looking for this exact role ever since. I need to be part of something that is making a difference and I believe that the team behind the Vancouver Mural Festival is doing just that. I appreciate the ideas and passion I see in my new colleagues and their genuine desire to transform the city forever and make it a better place. I love that we are facilitating an environment for artists to flourish and be recognized. I feel aligned with the team and their mandate and that is important to me.

Vancouver Mural Festival Staff + Board (2018) What do you bring to VMF that is missing? Having been "around" a little longer than most of the people at VMF, I think I have some hard-fought wisdom and experience to add to the mix. People tell me that I have a calm confidence and great resilience and it makes me laugh to think how many things I had to go through and learn in order to get that way. What is VMF doing that is different than other festivals? The biggest difference I see is the commitment to creating something sustainable through the festival and the murals. VMF is creating beautiful engaging murals that are going to be around for a long time and contributing to the fabric of Vancouver. Through the staging of this festival of art and music every summer, we create time and space for people to gather and celebrate all that is unique about our city. At the same time, VMF is transforming attitudes and affecting change in how our city is designed to facilitate public art. I am stoked to be part of that! What is your superpower? I had to do a little poll to help with the answer to this question :) but the answer is a positive attitude. I am blessed with the ability to look for and find the positive in virtually every person and circumstance. I nurture my superpower with tons of gratitude for all the good things in my life! What do you see as your first priority? I am focussing on learning right now, trying to get up to speed on the partners and sponsors that have been such great supporters for VMF since the beginning. I will be meeting with as many of them as I can in the next few weeks to find out where we are at and how we can work together this year. Simultaneously, I will be looking for opportunities to align with new brands that would benefit from the huge and growing audience around the world that is watching VMF.
