The Vancouver Mural Festival (VMF) returns this summer with an expanded 3-week celebration of murals across the city. This year the festival has been re-imagined to focus on the core of what we do: CREATE MURALS!

Over the past 5 years, VMF has produced over 200 murals in Vancouver and the surrounding area. This spring, we painted over 60 temporary murals on boarded-up storefronts with our #MakeArtWhileApart project. Public response has been overwhelmingly positive in reinforcing the importance of murals to help heal, spark joy, and bring people together, even while they stay physically apart. Now, more than ever, our shared public spaces play a key role in our recovery process. Murals can help transform public spaces and serve as catalysts for addressing many socio-cultural issues. Together, we can help reignite and connect our communities.

Our original call for artists was during the month of November 2019 for this summer's festival. That seems like ages ago! In the meantime, we have expanded the festival beyond our original neighbourhood of Mount Pleasant to paint murals in neighbourhoods across the city. This enables more people to celebrate murals within their own communities, while supporting local businesses by encouraging exploration across the city.

A couple of things before you get started:

1. This is a pretty simple applications form. We do not ask artists to create work for submission, just web-links.

2. This is why it's really important that your Instagram or other online portfolio is stacked with recent samples of your work. If your Instagram is full of photos of your cat, it makes it really hard for us to get a sense of your work. We love cats, but we're only looking for samples of your artwork at this time. Please only give us the link that best represents your art practice.

3. Submissions deadline is July 1st.

4. We expect a lot of applications for the 20-30 additional walls (40-50 walls total). We thank you in advance for your submission, because we will not be able to respond to everyone who's applied. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted between July 2020 - August 2020.

4. You will get an email to confirm the submission of your application. If that doesn't come through, please submit again. You can always edit your submission after hitting send.

5. We are looking for artists from British Columbia, Canada only. No International artists need apply due to the travel restrictions imposed due to COVID-19.
